Many kids in our sponsorship program live in the city of Vijayawada. These children generally have a family and live in a rented house. The family home, however, is likely to have no running water or sanitation; it also may house as many as 6 people within very small locales (300 sq. feet). For this reason, the homes are often just used for storage. Most of the family's normal activities (sleeping, cooking, eating, washing, and studying) take place on the street. Many of the children, moreover, have lost one or both of their parents. Some live with grandparents who have very limited means and cannot work. For them, taking care of the kids and providing them with an education is a constant struggle. The sponsorship fee for these children living with their parents is $365 per year unless otherwise noted for college or trade school.
