In December 2001, about 1200 families from different localities were relocated to the RR Peta slum, on the northern outskirts of town. Each family was allotted a plot of land of about 44 sq yds. The government, however, did not provide any of the basic infrastructure. The city dug 50 shallow bore wells, but the little water they provide is not drinkable. Once a day, drinking water is supplied from the town by water tankers, but the people say it is not sufficient to meet their needs. Toilets do not exist and the people are forced to use a neighboring field. The lack of sanitation leads to serious health problems, compounded by the complete lack of medical facilities. Care and Share provides education and support for these children and the community. The sponsorship fee is $550 per year unless noted on the child profile (for college or specific trade school). You may sponsor a child online by clicking the photo and following the "click to sponsor" link at the bottom of the profile.
