Bishop Azaraiah is a school operated by the Church of South India in the center of Vijayawada. It educates approximately 3,000 girls; a few hundred of them - most coming from some of the city's poorest slums - currently live on the premises. Because of chronic lack of funds, the school is in dire need of assistance. In 1999, we extended our sponsorship program to Bishop Azaraiah. 280 girls (of mostly elementary school age) are currently sponsored thorugh us. In 2004, the Bishop of the CSI Church handed the administration of the hostel over to Care&Share. Our assistance is not limited to taking proper care of the girls; we are also currently engaged in the gradual renovation of the locales. The sponsorship fee for these girls is $550 per year unless noted on the child profile (for college or specific trade school).
